| What is a Technology College?
The Technology College programme was launched in September 1993 to support schools wishing to develop special strengths in science, technology and mathematics. In September 1994 we were among the first schools in the country to be successful in gaining specialist status. In September 2005 we were re-accredited for a further four year period.
As the College progressed through the second phase of the programme our remit was extended to include a partnership role in the local community. We have been able to provide our students with an enhanced curriculum in the specialist subjects. The level of ICT and technological equipment in the College is maintained at a high level together with the necessary staffing.
Our core purpose as a Technology College is:
To extend choice and diversity in secondary schools;
To raise standards of teaching and learning in Design Technology, Maths and Science;
To strengthen links between schools and industry;
To be an active partner with other schools in the wider community.

As a Technology College we have a number of defining features:
A distinctive curriculum– We deliver all the subjects of the National Curriculum but have committed ourselves to measurable improvements in the teaching of technology, science and mathematics.
A business and vocational focus– We are sponsored by industry and commerce and try to maintain close links with local employers, through governance and other activities.
Technological enrichment – We have a number of activities to enrich pupils’ technological learning experience within and beyond the timetable.
The extensive use of ICT– We are trying to equip our students with relevant ICT skills for the world of work and to exploit new technologies in developing approaches to teaching and learning across the curriculum.
