Uppingham Community College

Charges for School Activities

The College has an extensive programme of educational visits, activities and outings which we are very keen to maintain. In accordance with the charging provisions of the Education Reform Act 1988, the Governors of Uppingham Community College maintain the right of students to free education in all aspects of the curriculum with the exception of any specialist music tuition which is not part of the National Curriculum. Charges are sometimes made for certain other activities which occur wholly or mainly outside school hours. Charges are also made for board and lodging on residential courses.

As with other schools, Uppingham Community College retains the right to invite voluntary contributions from parents for the benefit of the College or in support of any activity organised by the College whether during or outside school hours.

The Governors believe that all students are entitled to the same broad curriculum. Governors do offer a degree of financial support towards the cost of certain activities where parents cannot afford the total cost. Normally those parents would have to be in receipt of Income Support or Family Credit. Parents who qualify should contact the Form Tutor or Head of Year to discuss the remission of some part of the charges. This should be done in advance of the activity taking place.

Full details of the Governors’ Charging Policy can be seen at the College.
